And, what is a good way to higher the chance of becoming a swat member?
Answer Hello Melvin. I think you have an opinion of SWAT that is a bit off base. SWAT is a specialized unit within a given law enforcement agency. Typically, it is a subdivision, of a subdivision. I know of nobody who hires on as a SWAT officer. First, you need to get hired on an agency at the entry level. Usually, this is a uniform patrol officer. Figure on at the least, 3-5 years in patrol, where you’ll need to distinguish yourself at that position, prior to being considered for a specialized position. Then, it gets pretty competitive. You need to know and understand what the KSA’s are for a given SWAT unit, and the positions that come open require different skill sets. Then, it’s down to who can pony up the best/most qualities that are relevant. Advanced education is always a good plan, and will serve you well as progress in life. My counsel to you, is to focus on the entry level position first. If you can’t do that, all else in your plans for SWAT become moot. Good Luck.
