I think you need to check the terms and conditions of your contract. As your employer is paying for your continuing education (an NVQ possibly?) that is a benefit of a kind. I would also want to double check the wording that you’re not entitled to earn minimum wage – I completed a Modern Apprenticeship and there was nothing in my contract which said I would earn anything less than minimum wage. It was MINIMUM wage for a reason. Good luck – I hope you have a sympathetic employer. My own experience was less than rosy when a 3 year apprenticeship took over SEVEN years due to employer incompetence.
