At present, the Canadian Counselling Association (CCA) requires those applying for Canadian Counsellor Certification (CCC), to have a graduate degree from a university that is a member of the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC). The AUCC is a national organization that represents public and sectarian universities in Canada and is primarily concerned with lobbying efforts to ensure appropriate public funding for its member institutions. The AUCC is not, and does not claim to be, an accrediting body. We were informed that the Court of Queen’s Bench of New Brunswick has ruled that the Canadian Counselling Association (CCA) is not a regulator of counselling in Canada, and counselling remains unregulated in all Canadian provinces except Quebec.
