It sounds like you’ve been misinformed about how easy it is to get PR in Australia – it’s very difficult. Being British gives you no advantage whatsoever and the rules are the same for everyone, regardless of what country they’re from. The ‘pay taxes’ requirement you’ve heard of is for people applying for British residence, not Australian. You do have to pass a points test, but you don’t get any extra for being British. There is no such thing as a ‘trial 4 years resident visa’. Unless you’re in a genuine relationship with an Aussie and have either lived with them for at least 12 months or are married or planning to marry them, the only way you can get PR here is to have qualifications and work experience in an occupation listed as being in need of workers. The only visas (none of them permanent) that can be applied for while you’re in Australia are employer sponsored or regional relative or state government sponsored and you must still meet the occupation requirements and in most cases
