• Currently the AlphaCom Insat Wireless Modem is only able to compress the HTTP, POP3, and SMTP protocols. This means that anything that is not transmitted on those protocols is not compressed, and only uses standard CDPD bandwidth. Consequently, the standard CDPD bandwidth is not adequate enough for voice and video conferencing. In the future AlphaCom may release a product to make this possible. • How fast is the AlpahCom Insat Wireless Modem? • The actual throughput of the AlphaCom Insat Wireless Modem entirely depends on what is actually being transmitted. Text is compressed at an average rate around 20:1. This means that 200Kpbs-300Kbps can and has been obtained. Graphics in formats such as JPG and GIF are able to obtain compression from 2:1 to 4:1, allowing for a transmission rate of around 30:Kbps-35:Kbps. Zip files being already compressed, although being able to obtain some additional compression, do not obtan as impressive a compression ratio as the other file formats. While s
