Am I a bad teacher or just need to move to another school?
Hi, No it’s not just you. It is often difficult with kids in certain schools here in UK. When you have a change of classes at the end of the summer term you may be able to correct any mistakes you have made but I would say that a change of schools would be a good idea. It is also not a good idea to live in the same area that you teach – that way you get a clean break at the weekends. You will learn from your mistakes and avoid being over familiar with the kids so that they take you more seriously – and your US accent should fascinate them long enough to get their attention and cooperation. Be careful with your choice of areas – research the schools on the internet and look at their Ofsted reports. Avoid city schools and overspill new towns and go for the more rural areas – deadline for resignations is the end of May – so be quick if you are going to get out by end of summer. Good luck.
