Am having problems with Windows XP connected to BT Home Hub HEEELP!?
If your PC works with the Home Hub using a wireless connection, I would suspect that the hub is working. However it may have a faulty ethernet (LAN) socket. Although this is pretty unusual. I would also be suprised if there is a problem with the ethernet cable – in over 10 years working with networks I have only ever had to throw away cables that were visibly damaged. Try the obvious – unplug and replug the cable from both devices. Then try a separate cable. Use the PC that works wirelessly – you know that the IP (internet protocol) drivers and settings work on that one. Make sure you disable the wifi and plug it in with a cable. It is possible that your PC has a faulty ethernet card / socket. This may have been caused by lightning or power surges, but would most likely zap the hub first. In summary: 1. try a different cable 2. try a different PC (friend’s laptop?) Basic networking with cables is generally very simple under Windows XP. Everything should already be installed – it should
