Although my game is not in the list of supported games, the datafile has the same file extension as one of the supported games. Can I extract files from it then?
By default, NO. Although a datafile may have the same extension as files from supported games, this does not necessarily mean the formats of the two datafiles are the same. You can of course just try and see if by chance the formats ARE alike (this is mostly the case when the two games are from one and the same company, or use the same game engine), but if the formats differ from eachtother you may induce corruption of MC, or a general crash of the program. Use at your own risk. 6. Question: “I want to view a picture I extracted (for example PICT.GIF), but when I try, MC quits and says: ” FAILED TO SPAWN PROGRAM Indeed. This quitting behaviour of MC is usually due to lack of memory problems, but in this case, the picture file may also be in a totally different format, or may just be not a picture at all. You never know with files in datafiles. The extension GIF may just be an in-house term for something only the programmers know.
