There are a few requirements they have such as a clean criminal record and a student status letter (only if you are applying for a student visa). It seemed to me as soon as you receive the forms it’s just a matter of filling them out and sending them back and you’re basically guaranteed to get the visa. I would say though that the police check that you have to get did seem to take ages to come through, so don’t hang about in sending that off. I didn’t actually start applying until late July and got my confirmation of getting a visa through last week. However basically everything I did seemed to go wrong i.e. postal strikes causing letters to be delayed, student status letter not
