Answer Hi Joe, It is acceptable to pray to Mary as an intercessor, but not as a goddess. She is to be honored, but not worshipped. Prayer in itself is not a form of worship. True worship involves many elements, but is not exclusive of any of them, such as prayer and sacrifice. But we can pray to one another (“pray” means “communicate” or “ask” – so, I am “praying” to you right now!) and we make sacrifices for one another (such as in a marriage). We worship the one to whom all of our actions are directed. Why do we pray to Mary? For the same reason I might ask you for something-1) I need a favor, 2) to glorify God. We are not alone in our faith. To act like we are is an offense to God. The Rosary is made up of two types of prayer: vocalized prayer and meditative prayer.
