Answer This is an opinion question: A Sonographer and Rad Tech are on par when it comes to wages depending on the community where he/she is likely to be employed. The difference can be greater either way depending on market conditions, availabliity, and employer. Diagnostics are Diagnostics, and all modalities have a special duty and value. MRI was once considerd the X-Ray Killer, as was CAT scans, but over a period of time, all of these, including Sonography are independent and support each other in one way or the other. Xray will always be the main diagnostic tool and the others will help support radiography, with the exception of diagnostic examinations that strictly depend on Sonography (& the others) X-Ray will always have more positions than all the rest. It takes an experienced Radiologic Technician to operate CAT, MRI, and N Med. Sonographers do not have to be radiographers to be employed in the field, but it helps to be an Radiographer first because they learn several modaliti
