Answer Dear Jesse, My entire career was spent in one school district so my knowledge of salaries from district to district is very limited. I can tell you that in NY state each school district sets its own salary schedule when it negotiates with the teachers’ association. So two districts side by side offer two different salary structures. In my area salaries are usually based on educational degrees and years of experience. At one point in my career, I discovered that, had I worked in a neighboring school district, my salary would have been $10,000 MORE than it was! So it pays (literally!) to investigate salary structures of possible districts. As far as differing salaries based on subject being taught, there was no difference in districts that I know about. A first year teacher in my district would be paid a salary of approximately $30,000. I hope this helps.
