CTK: Yes ..(1).. is the case. The only units required to retreat by Rule 9C2 (Combat – Combat Results – Positional Ground CRT Combat Results) for the AL/DL results are those units reduced to cadre/remnant. However, you should also see Rule 9F1 (Combat – Movement After Combat – Declarations) which state that the opposing player must state if he will advance into the hex after the combat. If the opposing player does not advance, the units do not have to retreat. If there are any units not required to retreat (and there usually are in the AL/DL results) the opposing player may not advance into an enemy occupied hex – negating the retreat portion of the results altogether.
