After seeing Sweeney Todd, I was inspired to buy a straight razor (no, not to use to kill). Do you shave with a straight razor?
I use a straight razor and I find it gives approximately as close a shave as the modern counter-part. If you’re going to use it, be aware that unless you’re lucky you will likely get alot of small razor cuts at first. Consider it a part of the learning process. There is currently a model on the market that uses half of a disposable razor blade as an insert. This is an excellent alternative, as stropping is a skilled and time consuming task to do every morning. I generally use a regular razor before work to save time, and only use the straight razor when I’ve the luxury of a quiet morning for that very reason. I saw this movie, and the first thing that came to mind was that this is now going to follow be a trend. I suggest that unless you have a VERY steady hand, it would be much more fitting and practical to have a proper shave at a barber. All barbers are still required to be competent with the use of a straight razor, and you will get a much better shave as a result. Watch carefully
