After I retire, are there automatic yearly cost-of living increases?
A No. Cost-of-living increases are granted on an ad hoc basis. The Alabama State Legislature must enact a law to provide for any increase in the retirement benefits. For members of (non-state) public and quasi-public agencies, the former employing agency must elect to come under the provisions of the legislation which provides for the increase.
