After coring cabbage, how long to boil?

When I prepare cabbage rolls, I usually steam the head of cabbage a day ahead to make preparation easier. Fill a pan with water and heat til almost boiling. Add the cored cabbage and cover. Once the water begins to boil, lower the heat to medium. The cabbage leaves will begin to look withered and pull easily away from the head. You should be able to pull the leaves off with tongs. Handy tip: When the cabbage leaves are cool, it helps to trim off the thicker seam on the leaves. Trim with a sharp knife and try not to cut completely through. It’s easy and you can use cut pieces under your cabbage rolls.
