After a permit is issued for a new, added or altered building, when does Fire Prevention inspect?
When all the work is completed, call the office at (631) 451-6262 and ask to schedule a final inspection. Do not ask for the Fire Marshal who issued your permit, since he most likely will not be the Marshal to do the inspection! Doing so will only delay your request. If the project is particularly large, or if there is need for clarification, we will be happy to conduct a preliminary inspection. Generally, it takes two to three weeks after you call to have the final inspection. Hence, try to make the request slightly ahead of your scheduled completion date. It’s always better to have an appointment, then maybe have to call up the day before and cancel it, rather than wait those few weeks after you actually finish the job. “Time is money!” After the final inspection and correction of any deficiencies, the Division will issue a Certificate of Compliance and, if appropriate, a memo to the Chief Building Inspector, indicating that Fire Prevention has no problem with the job.
