After a divorce has been granted, when are the parties able to re-marry?
A divorce is usually not effective until at least 21 days after the actual signing of the divorce judgment by a justice, and, unless the court has made a special order for an earlier final date, which can be sought by any of the parties in certain circumstances and will usually require consent of affected parties not to appeal the judgment, the parties will not be free to re-marry until the effective date of the divorce judgment, as stated in the judgment. Religious annulments or divorces are not recognized by civil or judicial authority.
