Adult Protective Services (APS) – What does Abuse, Neglect or Exploitation mean?
• Abuse: Unusual and unexplained bruises, fractures, burns, any willful infliction of pain, injury, or mental anguish by a caretaker. • Neglect: Self-neglect or caretaker neglect. Failure to provide adequate food, shelter, clothing, and attention to personal needs which may cause physical/mental harm. • Exploitation: Illegal or improper use of a disabled adult or his resources for another’s benefit.
