According to Aztec religion Huitzilopochtli needed the most sacrifice. Why was this?
The god that needed the most blood was Huitzilopochtli, the war god. They thought that if he didn’t receive the nourishment that he needed he would not be able to perform in battle with the forces of the night. This would cause the sun to fail to rise the next morning. Another god, Xipe Totec (god of springtime), also needed sacrifice to preform the annual rite of renewal. After prisoners were killed in mock battles, they were skinned. Penitents then wore these skins for the next 20 days (Time Life, Pgs. 86-87). 6. How and why were sacrifices made to Xipe Totec, and Tlaloc? Another sacrifice was made to Tlaloc, the rain god. To ensure that the corn would grow they would sacrifice young children. They thought that this would please the rain god, and then he would bring prosperity to the nation (Stuart, Pg. 84).
