Accidentally turned folder to .txt file, can I change it back?

Hi there, I have been trying to make my newly created folder “New Folder” to become a text file by adding an extension of .txt so that it becomes: “New Folder.txt”. However I do not notice any difference. Perhaps it is not a folder you have modified. Try to put .rar or .zip extension in the “file”. And then use WinRAR to extract out.

Renaming a folder to .txt will still cause it to be a folder just the folder will be called foldername.txt it will not behave as a text file. Directory’s are flagged as such within the file system (ie valid attributes for a fat32 entry are archive, read only, system, hidden, and directory) so even if you do rename a directory (folder) to .txt simply renaming it back it should return to how it was. The rare exception to this rule is sometimes if you write to a folder that doesn’t exist it will create a file that is called foldername. – in this instance i don’t know of a way of recovering the files reliably but this issue is relatively rare unless you’re using older applications.
