I was rear ended several years ago, not only was I not penalized – my deductible was returned with a letter saying I was judged to be 0% responsible. My rates were not affected at all. I’m in Quebec where we have no-fault insurance as well. I think it depends on the terms of your personal insurance whether or not you can demand brand new parts. They do have a responsibility to do a good job tho’ so the part will be freshly painted to match the rest of the car, and it will look like new. My 9 year old car looked really odd because the back half looked shiny new and rust free.
