Some HSA accounts have no associated costs, others charge fees. Even if an HSA account normally charges fees, the health plan administrator may elect to cover the cost of these fees and waive fees to participants. Some firms that handle only the HSA account separately form the insurance charge a set-up and administrative fee, generally about the same amount as the fees charged for administering IRA accounts. Optional services like VISA debit cards, check printing or investment brokerage may increase the cost. The average account cost among the firms that do charge fees is $25 to $50 per year.
