About the Bermuda Triangle… how it points TRUE north and not MAGNETIC north, what does true nth mean???

The North (magnetic) Pole is not what the Earth spins on, the North Pole, where all compasses point to, is 1500 miles off the rotational axis. True north is just toward the axis of rotation, so I think that the rumor is that a compass in the Bermuda triangle points toward the axis of rotation, instead of the magnetic pole. If this is true, it can be caused by many reasons, such as iron deposits. But this rumor is completely false.. click on the source to find out the gist of the myth. One of the main roots of the myth stems from mistake. For example, at many points in the Bermuda triangle, Magnetic North is directly due south of the “true” north pole here. So a explorer might have measured the Magnetic at this spot, then went over to a different place, measured it again, and gotten different readings for where the “true” north pole is. There are many other reasons why the rumor is false at the link.

The true north is where the lines on the globe intersect at the north pole. Magnetic north is where a compass needle points to and the lines of magnetic flux intersect the earth(like a magnet). These points are not the same. Apparently, from what you said the two points are in line with each other in the BT. However, if you go to Virginia you will find that there is about and 8 degree difference between the two. Once you find magnetic north you go about 8 degrees counter clockwise to get true north. This difference can become extreme if for instance you were standing on a line between true and magnetic north. The north pole would be in front of you and the magentic north would be in back of you. There are tables that give you the offset between the two of them based upon your location.

True North is the North Pole as seen on a globe. Magnetic North is south of true North and North of Canada. The Bermuda Triangle doesn’t point anywhere, it’s a designated area on a map. But before you study maps and magnetism and Earth science I suggest you study English. While there is no grammar checker, there is a spell checker on these pages.
