This is a common misconception amongst employers. No Government workplace inspector will ever give you a written letter stating that you are now complying with all of your obligations as an employer. It is similar to driving an unregistered vehicle and being pulled over for a random breath test. Just because the officer fails to realize that your vehicle is unregistered, doesn’t make it ok to drive. This is precisely what happens when an inspector pays a visit. They are a visual presence to raise awareness and compliance, they generally look at obvious visual risks. Inspectors do not have the time or resources to conduct comprehensive OHS Audits.
