A Saucy Problem – Has Health & Safety Got Out Of Hand In The UK…?
No, it’s not Health and Safety that has got out of hand, as others have already said, it’s the sue, sue ,sue mentality that is the problem. My husband actually works for a governmental department in a H&S capacity, and they have to be very thorough on their policy and inspections because of people trying to sue the government over the tiniest detail. Before we moved here I worked for a Borough Council investigating insurance claims, and what people try to claim for is beyond belief…paying people to do these jobs is one hell of a lot less than paying any damages they may win from the courts for seemingly frivolous incidents…and all that is public money too.
“Not covering the cones, But covering their back” I think in this day and age if you can slip over a leaf out side a florist and sue them for thousands of £ in damages, then really all they are doing is covering their back, maybe they have had instances where its been close, and feel the need. I can see the logic & I dont think its mad, but they should of marketed the issue as a new gimmic giving you more sauce to dip it in, than airing the true fact that its a H&S issue. Risk Assesment done correctly, followed through without thought.
