A rep from Muzak told me that AMTC uses residential SIRIUS equipment that won work in a business. Is that true?
The SIRIUS Satellite Radio receiver we provide is no different from what is available via consumer channels. However, the cabling and antenna included with the SIRIUS Business Equipment Kit is completely different, and are designed specifically for the commercial market. AMTC’s speakers, amplifiers, and other sound equipment are all engineered for commercial use as well. Muzak rents their satellite bandwidth from Dish Network. The satellite receiver and dish they use are identical to what you’d get if you signed up for Dish Network TV in your home. So in fact, our equipment package is actually more tailored to business installations. Plus, as any Muzak customer can tell you, the signal frequently drops out in bad weather. SIRIUS’ signal is unaffected by weather. Plus, their satellite dishes are wind traps that frequently get turned out of alignment and require a service call to reposition the dish and restore reception. SIRIUS’ antenna doesn’t suffer from this problem. Back to top.
