The first stage is the preparation for tanning. The second stage is the actual tanning and other chemical treatment. The third stage applies retanning agents and dyes to the material to provide the physical strength and properties desired depending on the end product. This is known as Retanning. The fourth stage is used to apply finishing material to the surface or finish the surface without the application of any chemicals if so desired. This final stage is known as finishing. Preparing hides begins by curing them with salt. Curing is employed to check putrifaction of the protein substance (Collagen) because of the chance of bacterial infection due to the time lag that might occur from procuring it to processing it. It removes the excess water from the hides and skins where water flows from inside because of difference in osmotic pressure. Thus the moisture content of hides and skins get greatly reduced.

I would first suggest finding somewhere where you can tan unlimited per month. Usually you can do this for about $30-$40. Then I would suggest looking for a good tanning lotion. You are going to want a salon type because they work the best. I usually look for some lotions that are highly recommended by others and then buy them cheaper online. Their is a good site called www.lotions2go.com that have a wide range of products at really good prices. They also have some free or low cost samples you can get to try out before you buy the full bottle. Once you start tanning I would suggest starting at least a month or two before your prom. I would start by going no more than 10 minutes the first time and go at least 2 times a week. Its ok to tan 3 times a week but if you are just starting than 2 times is best. Also many tanning places will have you fill out a questionaire about tanning and they will reccomend how long to tan for at first. The important part about tanning is to NOT BURN!

I tan very easy on a sun bed,and use them if i know i have a party comeing up.I start using them about 4weeks before the day. Start off using them for 6mins three times in the first week. Then i use them for 9 mins three times a week for the next 2 weeks. Then on the last week i go on for 10mis twice in the last week. This helps me to get the redness out of the way at the begining and then the tan shows through. Never use a sunbed the day before a party cause it could always show up the day after as redish.Try using a tan excellerant which they have at most salons and always mosturise after as well.To make your skin even more fresh and the tan even always make sure you do under your arms and the creases on your neck that you get when you lie down. And for extra special skin and a golden looking tan use the sauna and put baby oil on whilst in the sauna and rub this in with a exfoliating glove.
