A question for Apple MacBook Pro users. Whats the lifespan of an Apple Laptop/Notebook?
I have personal experience of both Toshiba and Apple. And have bought extended warranties for both – though I was able to get educational discount, which helps. This applies if the person the computer is bought for is a student or works in education. The Toshiba had many problems: power supplies, comms board, sound board, hard drives, motherboard, display… When repairs were done they took two weeks. My Compaq wasn’t much better. My own Apple kit has been much more reliable, but not faultless. My son had a problem with a motherboard of a then current model. The shop put his hard drive into a new machine while we waited – job done in 15 minutes total. In terms of longevity. My first Apple desktop lasted 10 years, but did need a new hard drive in that time. I’ve just got rid of another desktop that was about eight years old, still working, gone to a charity. A five year old Mac Mini, faultless and never crashed in five years. Laptops have been excellent; family iBooks and Mac Book Pros
