A member of my team has had 6 months of unpaid special leave – what is the maximum duration of special leave?
Special leave cannot last more than 12 months – if he/she needs further time off work refer to the career break policy and guidelines. The amount of leave granted is at the discretion of the Line Manager and, depending on the circumstances of the request and the operational requirements, upto 12 months unpaid leave may be granted. Where circumstances are such that the request is for longer than 12 months unpaid leave, the request should be dealt with under the career break policy. Managers may wish to discuss particular cases with HR Direct.
