A lot of people criticise Nollywood storylines, whats your take on this?
The critics have a point and I also have a problem with that. But you wouldn’t blame the writers; the system has made them start writing what the sponsors can afford to shoot. When the sponsors give you a certain budget; it narrows your creativity; so instead of writing with a large horizon, you cut off a lot of things because it is not achievable with the budget you have. So you end up watching a lot of dramas that are shot in a room and parlour with exterior [shots] only getting into a car and driving to an office. Viewers are tired of seeing that, they want to see action, adventure and other stuff. Movies are not always about reality, sometimes you need to add fiction and stunts to get into the mind of the viewer. How would you rate Nollywood action movies? The action category has suffered a little setback for the same reason of available funding for the movies; writers avoid stories that will involve a lot of shots. Action requires a lot of stunts, guns, explosives and these things
