The Word Identification Fluency measure should be administered in the same way each time. Given the same amount of time, a student is more likely to be able to read a greater number of words from a list than from flash cards, because, with a list of words, the student does not have to wait for the examiner to flip a card to the next one or wait as the examiner records a student’s response while still manipulating the flash cards. However, when using the 50-word list, a portion of the words may be covered while the student reads. The examiner may use a blank sheet of paper to cover up two columns of the words while the student reads down the first column. When the student finishes reading the first column of words, the examiner moves the blank sheet to expose an additional column of words.
