A hill or a mountain?
By almost any standards, Rib Mountain does not qualify as a mountain. In fact, it was called Rib Hill through the first decade or so of the Twentieth Century. Although there is no clear agreement on just how high the local relief must be to qualify for “mountain” status — one geological dictionary quotes 1000 ft, and another thinks it ought to be 2000 ft — Rib “Mountain” is only 670 ft above the local terrain, far short of even the lowest qualifying mark!
