It depends on what you call a toy. Is a bicycle light a toy? I think once a dynamo wind turbine is used for a purpose you can call it a beneficial thing. But as mentioned in the project description, the aim of the project is not to electrify Liberia, but to train people to help themselves. I don’t know anything about your experience, but want to tell you something about mine. When I was a boy and wanted to potter, I sometimes asked my father to help me. The disadvantage of asking my father was, that I often ended up as a “tool holder” and by being that soon lost interest in the idea that initially inspired me. As you might understand, the purpose of the project can not be to show people that I myself are able to manufacture a 500 watt wind turbine, but to motivate them to do it themselves. Thus, the goal will always be to place the participants in the position to enhance the development of wind turbines on their own.
