A 4.3.What is the current cropped area of sugar-cane for sugar and ethanol production?
In Brazil, the cropped area amounts to 5.3 million hectares out of 6.3 million hectares worth of growing area. Today (2006), around 50 percent of the sugar-cane output is used for ethanol production, and 50 percent for sugar. In the countrys Center-South region, the mean ethanol output is 6,900 liters per hectare. In certain regions of the state of So Paulo, there are some units that achieve an output in excess of 9,000 liters per hectare.
