A – 068 May we use electronic signatures on checks?
Yes. If a Head Start agency decides to use electronic signatures, the Office of Head Start guidance is as follows: The use of electronic signatures should be documented in the organization’s written policies and procedures, and proper internal controls should be established to safeguard assets and reduce the risk of fraud or abuse. Those controls should include a clear segregation of duties to identify authorized personnel and limit access to the signature plate, die, key, stamp, electronic card, etc. Grantees should also refer to regulations 45 CFR 74.21 and 45 CFR 92.20 which describe standards for financial management systems.
