Do course participants automatically receive continuing education credits for attending an NRP course?
Although the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the American Heart Association (AHA) developed the course materials, they do not automatically grant continuing education credits for NRP courses. There are several reasons for this. The organization jointly sponsoring the activity must be involved in all stages of planning. With more than 27,000 NRP instructors conducting courses throughout the world, it would be impossible for either the Academy or the AHA to meet this requirement. In addition, the number of actual hours spent in the course can vary significantly, depending on the format used by the course directors. Consequently, the instructors seeking joint sponsorship of their NRP courses must work with accredited organizations closer to home, such as the continuing education department of a hospital, medical school, nursing school, or state medical or nursing organization.
