Wheres the violin?!
In Blue is so overproduced that it renders the album completely impotent. “Forgiven, Not Forgotten” and “Talk on Corners,” the band’s first and second studio albums respectively were rich, full bodied ventures into the unique fusion of pop and Celtic sounds. With “In Blue” they eschewed all that in favor of some of the blandest songs I’ve ever heard. “Breathless'” puerile lyrics and the misuse of a violin so synthesized that it’s virtually muted, is simply an embarrassment of a song. How sad. In the song “Irresistible” Andrea uses the “word” “mineable.” Is she kidding? How old are we? Sharon Corr said once that her dream would be to write a song for Bono. Dream on, honey. The album’s only saving grace is the beautifully simple “Hurt Before.” This is the one song on the album that sounds like it was written by an adult and not someone in junior high. The music is actually allowed to breathe and is not burden by the weight of overproduction. It’s a shame the rest of the album couldn’t ha
