What is the meaning of “vibes”?
(P. Shivaji, Nidamangalam) Well, first of all, “vibes” is the short form of “vibrations”. When you talk about “vibes”, you are referring to the good or bad feelings that you sometimes get when you meet a new person or when you walk into a strange place. You can’t always explain why you like a certain person the moment you meet him/her; you just feel comfortable in the person’s presence. Similarly there are times when you walk into a strange place and you immediately feel at home. It’s a question of chemistry. The good/bad feelings that you get are something that you sense intuitively. The word “vibes” is generally used in informal contexts. *Whenever I see Venkat I get really bad vibes. *I don’t think you should buy this house. I don’t like the vibes I get here. *Meera doesn’t want to work with Pramod. She says she gets strange vibes from that guy. S.
