What is veterinary microbiology?
There are many diseases that specifically effect animals. Examples of these diseases include FMD (Foot and Mouth Disease), Hog Cholera, African Swine Fever, Exotic Newcastles’s disease (just to name a few). Veterinary microbiologists study the microorganisms that are the causitive agents for these diseases. Causitive agents include bacteria, viruses, fungi, Prions (protein), nematodes and other parasites. Veterinary microbiologist may also play a role in pharmocological research helping to find vacines and cures for animal diseases. Veterinary microbiologists usually have advanced degrees (Masters or Doctorate).
