What it takes to become a Vet?
Right now – start shadowing vets in your hometown to get an idea of the profession. When you are able, try to get a job at a clinic. Many places will have you start out on kennel cleaning duty and let you work up to assistant as you show responsibility. Vet schools have minimum course prerequisites that you must complete in college before applying, but you don’t necessarily need a bachelor’s degree. You can get all your prereq’s done in two years if you take virtually no electives and work like a madperson. Normally it takes at least 3 years. But since vet school is difficult to get into, I’d advise getting your bachelor’s degree. Vet schools like to see a well-rounded candidate who has other interests besides only animals. After being accepted, vet school is four years of hard work. Different schools are better for different specialties.
