Does Pentax make the toughest cameras?
They’re not the toughest, just average. I’ve used my Pentax *istD under light rain, chuck it in my bag and traveled to Asia with it under rain, lots of fireworks, incense dust, and 5 years later it’s still chugging along. My Canon 1dmk2 is build like a tank though. I haven’t had any incidents, but I wouldn’t hesitate taking it inside a wet cave. I did bring my *istD inside a wet cave though, and still came out alive. The new digital Pentax are water resistant, which is great, but I wouldn’t risk it taking it to a war zone. I wouldn’t really care if the camera broke, but I would worry if the camera split open and allowed the CF card to get crushed. The 1d feels like it could take a bomb blast and still protect the CF card.
