I have a Compaq desktop I bought in 2005 and a Toshiba laptop in 2005 (it was a demo model got it cheap). Both computers work well. Everytime you set the laptop down it’s a bump that affects the connectors, especially if you move it while it is operating. The problem with reliability otherwise is quality control at the factory. Every manufacturer tries to build things well but some employees don’t always follow the rules – this affects the components they buy from other suppliers as well. Can’t say anything about stupid designs, that’s for others to argue over. Anyway – once you have bought the laptop, use it frequently and carefully. The basic idea is that if something is going to fail, it will fail within the first month, maybe a slightly loose connection, the LCD has a line, or the processor wil
