Where do students get advising?
When freshmen enter the University, they meet with both a faculty advisor as well as a student advisor known as a Meiklejohn Advisor. The majority of students participate in the CAP program (Curricular Advising Program), where the advisor is also a professor in one of the classes that the student is taking. If the student doesn’t enroll in the CAP program, s/he will be assigned an advisor with similar academic interests. Along with this faculty advisor is an upperclass peer advisor, or Mieklejohn. The student advisor can give each incoming freshman a student’s perspective on classes at Brown, recommend professors, and help students adjust to the campus. The student advisors are very well-trained and knowledgable concerning resources on campus and can also help direct their advisees to Deans, faculty members, student activities, etc.
