What library catalogs are scheduled next?
All nine of the automated networks (e.g., MVLC, NOBLE), representing two-thirds of the public libraries in Massachusetts as well as an assortment of community colleges and schools are now participating in at least “search- only” mode (online requesting not available yet). Several networks are trading material on the Virtual Catalog, and several others allow their users to place reserves directly on the system. During the remainder of 2004, we expect incremental changes. The C/W MARS and CLAMS networks began allowing users to reserve titles during the summer; FLO will begin to trade materials in preparation for library users to make direct reserve requests in the fall. MVLC and MBLN are waiting for improvements in some software modules before full participation can be established.
