What is a Retreat Center?
A retreat center is a hospitable environment which welcomes people who want to step back from the busy pace of daily life and take time to reflect on what is taking place in their lives and environment. It is usually a place where reflective programs are offered, where new and creative thinking is supported and where the spiritual quest is valued. Wisdom House grew into a retreat center during its first 30 years. The center began as a monastic-style home for women joining the Daughters of Wisdom. It continued to expand into Seat of Wisdom College for the sisters. Even during these times, persons were welcomed for retreats and reflection. In 1967, the center formally transitioned into an interfaith retreat and conference center. The center now presents various retreat and interfaith programs in spirituality, education and the arts. As a conference center, Wisdom House welcomes those groups whose purpose is consonant with the mission of Wisdom House.
