What is internet filtering software?
Internet filtering software, also known as a content control system, censorware, content filters or web filtering software, is usually a computer application or program used to control or prevent access to certain internet features over a computer or network of computers. Unlike a spam filter, which blocks websites that can be harmful and contain viruses or annoying pop-ups, internet filtering software will block web content that might contain key phrases in its content or URL found to be inappropriate or on the software’s blacklist. This blocked content and websites may include but is certainly not limited to: • Illegal content or websites that promote illegal actions, software cracking, hacking or other such criminal activities • Websites that display pornographic media and discussions on sexual activity • Websites that promote racism or any other type of hate • Content websites considered too graphic and extreme to view where the software is installed • Other websites that do not co
