What are yield maps?
Yield maps show the yield variances in field as a serious of ‘contours’ – similar to a land map. Each contour line represents a different yield. These maps identify low yielding areas that require further investigation to find the cause. Possible solutions can be simple as seed variety selection, compaction, or pest control or as complex as fertiliser inputs, soil types and moisture management (irrigation/drainage). Some of these applications can be adjusted each year, while others should be based on 2-3 years of yield information to account for seasonal differences.
