In Ontario, social assistance or welfare can be obtained through the Ontario Works (OW) program. OW benefits are for people who need money because they are unable to find work or are temporarily unable to work. OW has two main parts: Financial Assistance and Employment Assistance. Financial Assistance provides money for food, shelter, clothing and other household items for people who have no other means of support. Employment Assistance provides help for people to find work or become job ready.
