Ah, Chopin, my favorite composer as well! (well, equally next to Beethoven…) His dear personality! His personality DOES have something to do with his music- actually it has everything to do with it. All that great music had to come from the heart, not just the mind, and his very strong personality and other aspects of it that people will think negative (but I don’t) always shaped his music. I think that Chopin has the most melancholic and even depressing pieces of music ever written. Well, you are 100% right that he was pessimistic. He was always weighed down by the negative things in his live, and he never ignored them- why, he rather “highlighted” them. He had so many troubles in his life, like his illness, the tragedy in his family (his sister died of tuberculosis when she was 14), his parting with his dear native home (he was the most patriotic!), and of course, his turbulent love life.
